CDS Supplier Requirements

If you are considering or currently enquiring in operating a USPS Contract and decided to commit to the requirements in becoming a independent business owner, supplying a service to USPS, you need to form a business plan and classify your business in the way you successfully operate your business financially and legally.

In order for you or your company to provide service to the United States Postal Service you will need the following.

  1. Secure A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
An individual or entity (Form W-9 requester) who is required to file an information return with the IRS must obtain your correct taxpayer identification number (TIN) which may be your social security number (SSN), individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN), adoption taxpayer identification number (ATIN), or employer identification number (EIN), to report on an information return the amount paid to you, or other amount reportable on an information return.
Failure to furnish TIN. If you fail to furnish your correct TIN to a requester, you are subject to a penalty of $50 for each such failure unless your failure is due to reasonable cause and not to willful neglect. Civil penalty for false information with respect to withholding. If you make a false statement with no reasonable basis that results in no backup withholding, you are subject to a $500 penalty. Criminal penalty for falsifying information. Willfully falsifying certifications or affirmations may subject you to criminal penalties including fines and/or imprisonment. Misuse of TINs. If the requester discloses or uses TINs in violation of federal law, the requester may be subject to civil and criminal penalties
Go to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/taxpayer-identification-numbers-tin website for additional information.
  2. Secure A Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S number
The D-U-N-S Number is used to establish your company’s D&B® file, which can help potential partners and lenders learn more about your business, and may also help them make more informed decisions about whether or not to work with you as a client, supplier, or partner.
Your DUNS number identifies your business for purposes of tracking your financial and payment history. Go to http://www.dnb.com website and click on GET A D-U-N-S at the top of the page.
  3. Register for the VETS-4212 Federal Contract Reporting Program
